Senior Traveler: Travel bargains for
the holiday season
By Alan Solomon
For The Inquirer
Baseball is over, finally, even for the Phillies. That
can mean only one thing.
It's almost Christmas.
It really is almost Hanukkah. (First light: Dec. 1.)
Calls these gifts, if it makes you feel more seasonal.
Think of some of them as potential gifts to yourselves.
I think of them as incentives to get us out of town.
Tour companies, cruise lines, hotels, destinations, and
marketers of tourist-friendly toys are jumping in early,
trying to get a portion of holiday spending onto their
bottom lines. What follows are among the dozens of
alerts that got my attention.
A disclosure: Not all of these offerings are exclusive
to seniors or discounted only for 55-plussers (or, for
that matter, discounted for anyone). But I've chosen
them because they offer something that appeals to us
geezers - value, and maybe something a little different.
Grab your credit card (which we keep balance-free, of
course), and here we go:
Golf. Golf
aids are often curious, but here's one - with no stated
age limit - that offers to correct just about everything
in your game for a mere $89 (or about the price of three
nights at Excalibur): the SensoGlove. It has built-in
sensors that read your grip pressure. "Practicing with
SensoGlove will teach you the correct grip pressure for
a smooth, consistent swing that delivers greater
distance, enhanced precision and lower scores!" This is
not a personal endorsement. I haven't broken 100 since
1997. Just passing it along.
